ケファランテラ・アウスティニアエ [Index] [Back] 北アメリカの西部が原産です。薄暗い針葉樹林に生え、高さは２０〜５０センチになります。蝋質で白い、ほとんど葉のない植物です。緑色でないため光合成ができず、栄養は根に寄生する「きのこ」の手を借りて、林床の腐植質から得ています。３月から７月ごろ、黄色の中心に、白色または黄色がかった花を、茎の総状花序に咲かせます。 ラン科キンラン属の多年草で、学名は Cephalanthera austiniae (syn. Eburophyton austiniae)。英名は Phantom orchid、Snow orchid。 The phantom orchid (Cephalanthera austiniae) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is native to western North America. This herb grows in the dim light coniferous forests, and it can reach 20-50 cm in height. It is a waxy, white, nearly leafless plant. Since it is not green and is therefore incapable of photosynthesis, it absorbs all its nutrition from the humus of the forest floor, aided by a fungus in its roots.
