基本種はブラジルの南東部からアルゼンチンの北部に分布しています。この変種は、高さは４．５メートルほどですが、濃い青緑色の茎が捩れ、奇妙なかたちです。これは成長点が変化することに起因します。棘座には赤色または金色の短い棘が生えています。花は直径１５センチほどの白色で夜に開き、卵形の果実は赤色に熟します。

サボテン科ケレウス属の柱サボテンで、学名は Cereus hildmannianus var. monstrose。英名は Giant club、Curiosity plant。

The giant club (Cereus hildmannianus var. monstrose) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen perennial herbacious plant. The host species is distributed southeastern Brazil to northern Argentina. This variety grows up to 4.5 m in height. Stems are bluish green, and twisted, looked like a monster. Twisting is because by changing growing point. Reddish or golden spines are short, born on the areoles. Flowers are white about 15 cm in diameter and open at night. Fruits are egg-shaped and ripen red.
