チリが原産です。高さは２〜４メートルになり、幹や枝が枝垂れます。濃い緑色の「やなぎ」に似た葉が互生します。この葉を傷つけると、悪臭があります。枝先の花序に、淡い黄緑色の筒状花をいっぱいに咲かせ、夜に芳香を放ちます。果実は多汁で、球形から楕円形です。和名では「あつばやこうぼく（厚葉夜香木）」と呼ばれます。

ナス科キチョウジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Cestrum parqui。英名は Hardy willow-leaved jasmine。

The Hardy willow-leaved jasmine (Cestrum parqui) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Chile. It grows 2 to 4 m tall with a weeping trunk and branches. It has dark green "willow"-like leaves that grow in alternate arrangements. When these leaves are injured, they have a foul odor. Inflorescences at the ends of the branches are full of pale yellow-green tubular flowers that are fragrant at night. The fruits are juicy and spherical to elliptic in shape. The Japanese name is "厚葉夜香木" (Atsuba-yakou-boku).
