The yellow pincushion (Chaenactis glabriuscula) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual herb that is native to California and Baja California. This herb grows in desert, chaparral and woodlands, and it can reach about 50 cm in height. The leaves are usually divided into many very small, curling lobes. The flower-heads are bright to deep yellow, outer greatly enlarged, and bloom from April to June.
