メキシコから中央アメリカに分布しています。雨林の低木層に生え、高さは２メートルほどになります。茎は細長くて節があり、「たけ」に似ています。葉は羽状複葉で、１２個ほどの小葉がつきます。葉鞘から花梗を伸ばしてくすんだ黄色の花を咲かせます。花後、果実はオレンジ色から黒色に熟します。

ヤシ科カマエドレア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Chamaedorea seifrizii。英名は Bamboo palm、Reed palm、Seifriz's chamaedorea。

The bamboo palm (Chamaedorea seifrizii) belongs to Arecaceae (the Palm family). It is a small evergreen tree that is native to Mexico and Central America. This palm thrives understory of rainforests and can reach about 2 m in height. Its stem is long and slender with nodes, and similar in appearance to bamboo. Leaves are pinnately compound with about 12 leaflets. Dull yellow flowers arise from the leaf sheaths, following bloom the fruits ripen orange to black.
