ヨーロッパの中部から南部が原産です。牧草地や農地、道端などに生え、高さは１０〜６０センチになります。葉は三角形から菱形で、基部は広く張り出します。５月から１０月ごろ、長い穂状花序をだし、小さな緑色の花を咲かせます。長い間、野菜として栽培されていましたが、現在では雑草となっています。

アカザ科アカザ属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Chenopodium bonus-henricus。英名は Good King Henry。

The Good King Henry (Chenopodium bonus-henricus) belongs to Chenopodiaceae (the Goosefoot family). It is an annual to biennial herb that is native to central and southern Europe. This herb grows in pastures, farmyards or roadsides and can reach 10-60 cm in height. The leaves are triangular to diamond-shaped with a pair of broad pointed lobes near the bases. The small green flowers come in the long spikes from April to October. This herb had been grown as a vegetable for hundreds of years, nowadays it is a weed.
