The Chirita dielsii belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Yunnan Province, China. It grows in shady, rocky areas at elevations of 1900 to 3400 m and is about 20 cm tall. The leaves are broadly ovate to broadly obovate, basal, with long white hairs. It produces cymes from June to September, one or two purple to purple-blue flowers. In Japan, it was originally called "雲南岩桐草" (Unnan-iwagiri-so). The Chinese name is "圓葉唇柱苣" (yuan ye chun zhu ju tai).
