The Chirita genus belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an annual or perennial herb that includes about 150 species and distributed mainly in China and Southeast Asia. The leaves are large, green and partly aranged with silvery-white patch outlining the veins. The clusters are borne on the flowring stalks and bloom lavender, pink, yellow or white flowers. In Chinese, it is called "唇柱苣苔" (chun zhu ju tai shu).
