オーストラリアの南部に広く分布しています。日当たりよい草地に生え、高さは４０〜６０センチになります。茎は地面に沿って平らに立ち、茎の先端が上を向きます。葉は線状披針形から長楕円形またはへら状で茎に密着し、絹のような毛で被われます。晩春から初夏にかけて、茎の先端の花序に、房状に黄色い頭花を咲かせます。「オーストラリアひめあかたては（Vanessa kershawi）」の重要な食草です。

キク科クリソケファルム属の多年草で、学名は Chrysocephalum apiculatum (syn. Helichrysum apiculatum)。英名は Common everlasting、Yellow buttons。

The Common everlasting (Chrysocephalum apiculatum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is widely distributed in the southern part of Australia. It grows in sunny grassy areas and is 40-60 cm tall. The stems stand flat on the ground with the tips pointing upward. The leaves are linear-lanceolate to elliptic or spatulate, attached to the stem and covered with silky hairs. Yellow flower heads bloom in clusters on inflorescences at the stem tips from late spring to early summer. It is an important food plant for the "Australian painted lady" (Vanessa kershawi).
