球根性ベゴニアのソコトラナ種（Begonia socotrana）とドレゲイ種（Begonia dregei）を交配して生まれた品種群です。高さは３０〜５０センチほどになります。短日性の植物なので冬咲きですが、１１月から４月ごろ、直径２センチほどの花を咲かせます。別名で「ロレーヌベゴニア」とも呼ばれています。

シュウカイドウ科シュウカイドウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Begonia x cheimantha。英名は Christmas begonia、Lorraine begonia。

The Christmas begonia (Begonia x cheimantha) belongs to Begoniaceae (the Begonia family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a group of varieties was created by crossing the bulbous Begonia socotrana and Begonia dregei. It grows to a height of 30-50 cm. It is a short-day plant, so it blooms in winter, but from November to April, it produces flowers about 2 cm in diameter. It is also known as "Lorraine begonia".
