The Chysis bractescens belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from southern Mexico through Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. It grows in moist forests at elevations of 800-1500 m, attaching itself to tree branches or rocks. The stems are thick, spindle-shaped, and drooping, covered with white membranous sheaths. The leaves are linear to elliptic and grow in clusters at the tips of the stems. In spring, long inflorescences emerge from the base of the new shoots and produce waxy, fragrant white flowers.
