The White-leaved rockrose (Cistus albidus) belongs to Cistaceae (the Rockrose family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in southwestern Europe and northern Africa. It grows up to 1.2 m tall and has opposite, oblong to lanceolate leaves. The stem, leaves and sepals are covered with soft white pubescence. Inflorescences emerge from the stem tops and leaf axils in spring and fall, producing reddish-purple flowers. There is a yellow eye in the center of the corolla. There are many garden varieties, and the flowers come in a variety of colors, including mauve, pink, and white. Because it is a one-day flower, it is called "goji-aoi" in Japanese.
