It grows on hillsides, rocky gravels, and dry, uncultivated land, and is 80-150 cm tall. The leaves are triangular, petiolate, hairless, and wrinkled, with a hairy underside. From May to June, it produces 1 to 8 flowers in long peduncle inflorescences. The flowers are large, 6 to 8 cm in diameter, white with a yellow center. The buds are often crimson and drooping. The fruit is hairless or nearly so, with reddish calyx. Bees love this flower.
