The Winter clematis (Clematis cirrhosa) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed along the Mediterranean coast of southern Europe. It is a 3-6 m long vine that tangles itself around other trees and plants. The leaves are triternate compound to 2 times triternate compound, shiny, and have rough serrations on the edges. Bell-shaped flowers, about 3 cm in diameter, bloom from late fall to early spring. The sepals, which look like petals, are cream-colored with dark yellowish-white spots. It is evergreen, but goes dormant temporarily in midsummer.
