Cleistocactus samaipatanus belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a columnar cactus that is native to Bolivia. This grows on rocky outcrops in forests, 1,000-2,000 m above sea level, and up to a height of 1.5 m. It has multiple long, narrow columnar green stems with 14 to 17 ribs and pale gold spines. The brilliant red to pink flowers are up to 5 cm long and up to 2.5 cm in diameter, and bloom in summer. The fruits are small, spherical, and reddish with dense white and brown wool, up to 1 cm long and wide.
