アメリカの中南部、テキサス州中央部の丘陵地帯の固有種です。渓流沿いの岩壁や潅木帯などに生え、蔓性です。葉は４〜５出複葉で、長い葉柄と先端には巻きひげがあります。４月から６月ごろ、葉腋から花柄を伸ばして朱赤色の花を咲かせます。萼片の先端は、わずかに外側に反り返ります。 写真上・中１は、園芸品種の「サートレボーローレンス（cv. Sir Trevor Lawrence）」、 中２は「ダッチェスオブアルバニー（cv. Duchess of Albany）」、 中３〜４は「プリンセスダイアナ（cv. Princess Diana）」、 そして中５が「グレーブティビューティ（cv. Gravety Beauty）」。 |

キンポウゲ科センニンソウ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Clematis texensis。英名は Scarlet leatherflower。 |

The scarlet leatherflower (Clematis texensis) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to central Texas in the United States. This herb grows in streamside cliffs or scrubs and grows on a trailing vine. The leaves are 4-5 lobed compound with long petioles and terminal cirrus. The peduncles are borne on the axiles and bloom vermillion-red flowers from April to June. The sepals have outside recurving tips. The 1st-2nd photos are a cultivar 'Sir Trevor Lawrence', the 3rd is 'Duchess of Albany', the 4th-5th are 'Princess Diana', and the 6th is 'Gravety Beauty'. |
