アメリカの東南部から中南部に分布しています。低地の河岸や湿地などに生え、高さは９メートルほどになります。樹皮は灰褐色で、縦に割れます。葉は長披針形で、縁には細かい鋸歯があります。春に枝先から花序を下垂させ、黄緑色の目立たない花を咲かせます。

ヤナギ科ヤナギ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Salix caroliniana。英名は Coastal plain willow、Ward willow。

Coastal plain willow (Salix caroliniana) belongs to the Salicaceae (the Willow family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is native to the south-eastern and central-southern United States. This tree grows in lowland streambanks, marshes and can reach 9 m in height. The bark is grayish brown and longitudinally fissuered. The leaves are long lanceolate with fine toothed edges. The inconspicuous flowers are borne on the terminal, drooping inflorescences in spring.
