The Columnea linearis belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Belize. It is a epiphyte and grows primarly in the wet tropical biomes. The leaves are dark-green, lanceolate, petiolate and opposite. It blooms light purplish pink tubular flowers. It is the source of much of the pink color in Columnea hybrids.
