アメリカのニュージャージー州からカンザス州、南はテキサス州からフロリダ州に分布しています。河川や池沼の周辺それに湿った草地に生え、高さは30〜60センチになります。地下茎によって広がり、夏に青色の花を咲かせます。花色には青色から赤紫色、ピンク色までの変異があります。以前は、ヒヨドリバナ属(Eupatorium)に分類されていました。 
キク科コノクリニウム属の多年草で、学名は Conoclinium coelestinum。英名は Mistflower、Blue mistflower。 
The Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the United States from New Jersey to Kansas and south from Texas to Florida. It grows near rivers, ponds, and wet meadows, and is 30-60 cm tall. It spreads by underground stems and produces blue flowers in summer. Flower color varies from blue to reddish purple and pink. It was formerly classified in the genus Eupatorium.
