The Mistflower (Conoclinium dissectum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern United States, from Arizona to Texas, and northern Mexico. It grows in dry grasslands and forest margins, and is about 90 cm tall. It often grows in dense clusters. The leaves are ovate to triangular in shape, deeply divided into three lobes, and the lobes are further divided into fronds. From April to November, the flower heads bloom at the top of the stem, ranging from pale mauve to purple. The flower heads have no ray florets, and the long filiform pistils of the same color stand out.
