The genus Conophytum is native to South Africa. It is closely related to the "Fig marigold", but has two fleshy leaves that are joined together to form a single clump. It is several centimeters in diameter and can be round, saddle-shaped, or tabi socks-shaped. It first molts and divides from summer to fall, and continues to grow until it goes dormant the following summer. It has a long flowering season and its flowers come in a variety of colors.
