アメリカの中西部からメキシコに分布しています。大草原から平原、牧草地、サバンナなどに生え、高さは３０センチほどになります。５月から９月ごろ、雨後すぐに花茎をのばし、白色で一重の花を咲かせます。夕方に開花し、２～４日咲いた後、ピンク色に変色して枯れます。花後、灰緑色で滑らかな線形の葉が伸びます。果実は三稜蒴果です。種小名は、スコットランドの博物学者、トーマス・ドラモンドに因みます。

ユリ科クーペリア属の多年草で、学名は Cooperia drummondii (syn. Zephyranthes chlorosolen)。英名は Evening rainlily, Evening star rainlily。

The Evening rainlily (Cooperia drummondii) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Midwestern United States to Mexico. It grows in prairies, plains, meadows, and savannas, and grows to about 30 cm tall. From May to September, soon after the rains, the flower stalks extend and produce white, single flowers. The flowers bloom in the evening and remain for 2 to 4 days before turning pink and dying. After flowering, gray-green, smooth linear leaves grow. The fruit is a trilocular capsule. The specific epithet is in honor of the Scottish naturalist Thomas Drummond (1790-1835).
