ニュージーランドの固有種です。山地に生え、高さは8メートル以上になります。幹はふつう分枝しません。葉は広線形で青緑色、長さは1〜2メートルになります。葉の主脈は、しばしば赤色や橙赤色、金色などを帯びます。葉の下から円錐花序をだし、小さな緑白色からライラック色の花を咲かせます。
リュウゼツラン科センネンボク属の常緑小高木で、学名は Cordyline indivisa。英名は Mountain cabbage tree。
The mountain cabbage tree (Cordyline indivisa) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is ecdemic to New Zealand. This tree grows in mountains and can reach up to 8 m in height. The stem is usually unbranched. The leaves are broad linear, blue-green and 1-2 m long. Their midribs are often tinged red, orange red or golden. The panicles are produced from beneath the leaves and bloom small whitish green to lilac flowers.
