ヨーロッパの南東部から南西部に分布しています。砂地や岩礫地に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。葉は羽状複葉で、倒卵形の小葉がつきます。晩春から夏にかけて、散形花序をだし、熟れた「もも」のような芳香のある黄色い蝶形花を咲かせます。写真中３・下は、斑入りの園芸品種「バリエガタ（cv. Variegata）」。

マメ科コロニラ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Coronilla valentina。英名は Mediterranean crownvetch、Scorpion vetch。

The Mediterranean crownvetch (Coronilla valentina) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed from south-eastern to south-western Europe. This herb grows in sandy soils and screes, and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are pinnate compound with obovate leaflets. The umblels are borne and the yellow papilionacenous flowers bloom from late spring to summer. The flowers has peach-like aroma. The bottom two photos are a cultivar 'Variegata'.
