ブラジルの北・東部が原産です。地下茎で広がり、茎を叢生して高さは６０センチほどになります。濃緑色の葉は大きく、裏面は紫色を帯び、茎に螺旋状につきます。ほとんど一年中、茎の先に直径４センチほどのオレンジ色の花を咲かせます。 |

ショウガ科ホザキアヤメ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Costus igneus。英名は Fiery costus。 |

The Fiery costus (Costus igneus) belongs to Zingerberaceae (the Ginger family). It is an evergreen herb that is native to the north and east of Brazil. It spreads by underground stems and grows to a height of about 60 cm in clusters. The dark green leaves are large, with a purplish underside, and are attached to the stem in a spiral pattern. Orange flowers, about 4 cm in diameter, bloom at the end of the stem almost all year round. |
