The brass buttons (Cotula coronopifolia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southern Africa, but it has been introduced to many regions of the world. This herb grows on beaches and marshes, and it can reach 5-15 cm in height. It is also mat sprawling, prostrate, rooting at nodes, and strong-smelling. The lowers leaves are divided into few linear lobes, and the upper leaves are undivied, sometimes toothed. The flower-heads are yellow, consisting of hard buttons of disk flowers. They bloom almost all year long.
