The spider lily (Crinum asiaticum) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed widely, from the Miura Peninsula, the southern Boso Peninsula of Honshu to East Asia and South Asia. This herb grows in temperate coastal area, and up to a height of 1.5-1.8 m. The plants native to our country are varieties, and called "Hama-omoto" (Crinum asiaticum var. japonicum). It bears thick, shiny and strip leaves from the pseudostems. The fragrant white flowers bloom in the umbels of the shoot apices from July to September. The flower has six tepals and purplish filaments.
