チリからアルゼンチンに分布しています。クリノデンドロン属はただ２種しかありません。幹は直立して高さは３〜９メートルほどになり、枝は大きく広がります。葉は披針形で光沢があり、縁が外側に丸まります。晩春から初夏にかけて、長い花茎の先に、濃い赤色のランタンのような花を下垂して咲かせます。

ホルトノキ科クリノデンドロン属の常緑低木で、学名は Crinodendron hookerianum。英名は Lantern tree、Chilean lantern plant。

The lantern tree (Crinodendron hookerianum) belongs to the family Elaeocarpaceae. It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from Chile to Argentina. There are only two species of the genus Crinodendron. The trunk stands upright and is about 3-9 m in height, and the branches spread widely. The leaves are lanceolate, shiny and with rounded edges. The dark red lantern-like flowers hang down on the tips of long flower stalks from late spring to early summer.
