熱帯アフリカが原産です。高さは６０〜９０センチになります。葉は紐状で緑色、茂みを形成します。夏、チューリップに似た白色の花を、葉のない茎の上に咲かせます。いくつかの花は芳香があり、他はほとんど香りがありません。

ユリ科ハマオモト属の常緑多年草で、学名は Crinum jagus。英名は St. Christopher lily。

The St. Christopher lily (Crinum jagus) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to tropical Africa. This herb grows up to a 60-90 cm tall. The leaves are strap-shaped, green, and form a clump. Tulip-like white flowers bloom in clusters in summer atop leafless stalks. Some flowers are fragrant, but other have little aroma.
