The Leatherweed (Croton pottsii) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the southwestern United States, from Arizona to Texas, and northern Mexico. It grows in deserts and dry shrub zones, and is about 30 cm tall. The stem branches well from the base. The leaves are grayish green, lanceolate to ovate, or oblong, and the surface is covered with stellate to scale-like hairs. From May to October, cyathiums are produced from the tips of the branches and in the leaf axils. The flowers are unisexual or bisexual, and have no petals. The fruit is a three-lobed capsule. The specific epithet is named after John Potts (1805-1876), who was the director of the mint in Chihuahua City, Mexico.nbsp;
