クフェア属は、アメリカ南部から中央アメリカ、南アメリカ北部に２６０種ほどが分布しています。葉は卵形から線形で、対生あるいは輪生します。茎の先端や葉腋から総状花序をだすか単生し、筒状花を咲かせます。 写真中２の品種は「キースホワイト（cv. Keith White）」。写真中３・中４は、カリフォルニア州のストライビンク植物園（Strybing Arboretum）で選抜された園芸品種で、「ストライビングサンセット（cv. Strybin Sunset）」。花冠の先端が濃褐色でコウモリの耳のように反り返るのが特徴です。 写真中５・下は、「タイニーマイス（cv. Tiny Mice）」。 |

ミソハギ科クフェア属の常緑多年草または常緑小低木で、学名は Cuphea sp.（属の総称）。英名は Cuphea、Cigar plant。 |

The Cuphea is a genus of about 260 species of perennial herbs or shrubs and belongs to Lythraceae (the Loosestrife family). It is distributed from the southern United Sates to Central America and northern South America. The leaves are ovate to linear, opposite or whorled. The tubular flowers are borne in stem apices or axils. The variety in the 3rd photo is 'Keith White'. The variety in the 4th and 5th photos is 'Strybing Sunset', a horticultural variety selected at the Strybing Arboretum in California. It is characterized by the dark brown tip of the corolla, which is recurved like a bat's ear. The 6th and bottom photos are of 'Tiny Mice'. |
