The buckhorn cholla (Cylindropuntia acanthocarpa) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a cactus that is native to California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona in the United States. This cactus grows in desert and it can reach about 1.8 m in height. The stems are branched like a buck's antlers and are spiny with usually 6-20 spines per areole. The orange, red, yellow, pink or yellow-green flowers bloom in late April and May. The fruits are bumpy, spiny, tan-colored berries that dry out and drop off before the plant flowers again next year.
