マダガスカル島の南部に分布しています。高さは１．５メートルほどですが、茎の下部が象の足のように肥大するのが特徴です。これはコーデックス（Caudex）状の茎と呼ばれ、下には丈夫な根があります。蔓性で、葉は多肉質です。

ブドウ科キフォステンマ属の落葉蔓性低木で、学名は Cyphostemma elephantopus。英名はありません。

The Cyphostemma elephantopus belongs to Vitaceae (the Grape family). It is a decidous vine that is distributed in the southern part of Madagascar. It is about 1.5 m tall, but is characterized by an enlarged lower part of the stem that resembles an elephant's foot. It is called caudex-like stem and has sturdy roots underneath. It is a vine with fleshy leaves.
