キルトスペルマ属には１２種があり、メルクシー種（Cyrtosperma merkusii）を除いてニューギニア島と周辺諸島に分布しています。沼沢や湿地などに生え、地下茎を伸ばして広がり、高さは１．８〜２．４メートルになります。茎はピンク色と灰色の縞模様で、上向きにかぎ爪状の棘が生えます。葉は大きくやじり形で、葉脈が赤色になります。花は紫褐色の仏炎苞に包まれた肉穂花序につきます。写真中７から下の品種札は「Cyrtosperma sp.」。

サトイモ科キルトスペルマ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Cyrtosperma johnstonii。英名はありません。

Cyrtosperma johnstonii belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). This genus consists of about 12 species of evergreen plants that are distributed in the New Guinea Island and surrounding islands except Cyrtosperma merkusii. This herb grow in marshs and bogs, spreads by elongated rhizomes and can reach 1.8-2.4 m in height. The stems are covered with pink and gray stripes, and borne upright hooked prickles. The leaves are large barracking-shaped with red veins. The flowers bloom in the spadix covered with purplish-brown spathe.
