The Water snowflake (Nymphoides indica) belongs to the family Menyanthaceae. It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. This herb grows in ponds and swamps and has whisker-like roots in the mud on the bottom of the water. It extends the stem from here and floats the leaves on the surface of the water. A lot of flower stalks grow from the base of the petiole and white flowers come in bloom from July to September. The corolla is deeply split into five, and the edges of the lobes are split into fine threads. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "印度莕菜" and in Chinese "金銀蓮花" (jin yin lian hua).
