南アフリカのクワズールーナタール州北部からリンポポ州に分布しています。サバンナや渓谷などに生え、多肉質で高さは３０〜４５センチになります。また無茎種で、基部から増殖して群落を形成します。晩春から夏にかけて、花茎を伸ばして総状花序をつけ、口先が淡黄色で朱色の筒状花を咲かせます。園芸上は「しゅんおうてん（春鴬囀）」と呼ばれます。

ユリ科ガステリア属の常緑多年草で、学名は Gasteria batesiana。英名はありません。

Gasteria batesiana belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed to northern KwaZulu-Natal to Limpopo Province of South Africa. This succulent herb grows in savannah and valleys and can reach 30-45 cm in height. It is a stem-less and proliferates from the base to form colony. During late spring to summer, scarlet tubular flowers with pale yellow tips are seen in racemes on the stalks.
