The Pencil-leaf gasteria (Gasteria caespitosa) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the Cape region of South Africa. It has short stems and a rosette of thick, stiff, fleshy leaves. The dark green leaves have white patches. In horticulture, it is called "Tora-hoko" (tiger's spear) in Japan.
