ツツジ科ヨウラクツツジ属の落葉低木で、学名は Menziesia multiflora var. longicalyx。英名はありません。
The "Gaku-urajiro-youraku" (Menziesia multiflora var. longicalyx) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is endemic to Japan, and distributed to the northern North Alps, northward from Kanto district to Hokkaido. This tree grows in montane forest edges or grasslands, and can reach 50-200 cm in height. The leaves are obovate or elliptic, alternate and crowd on the terminal branches. The pale rose pink flowers bloom descending on the terminal branches from May to July. It is defined by long calyx lobes of corolla.
