中央アメリカのメキシコからコスタリカに分布しています。茎の基部は木質化し、高さは２〜３メートルになります。柱サボデンの仲間ですが、薄い葉状に変化した茎節が特徴です。６月から９月ごろ、夜に２時間ほど開花します。花には強い芳香があり、媒介する蛾の仲間を惹きつけます。 |

サボテン科クジャクサボテン属の柱サボテンで、学名は Epiphyllum oxypetalum。英名は Dutchman's pipe cactus。 |

The Dutchman's pipe cactus (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a columnar cactus that is distributed in Central America, from Mexico to Costa Rica. The stem is woody at the base and its height is 2-3 m. It is a member of the columnar cactus, but its stem segments have changed into a thin leaf shape. It will bloom for about 2 hours in the evening from June to September. Flowers have a strong fragrance, which attracts fellows of moths that mediate pollination. |
