北アメリカの太平洋側、カナダのブリティッシュコロンビア州からカリフォルニア州のシエラネバダ山脈にかけて分布しています。山地の草原や渓流沿いに生え、高さは５〜３０センチになります。葉は広卵形で対生し、下部の葉の基部は鞘状に茎を抱きます。７月から１０月ごろ、茎の先に青色から黄緑色のベル形の花を咲かせます。花冠の先は５裂しますがほとんど開きません。 |

The Explorer's gentian (Gentiana calycosa) belongs to Gentianaceae (the Gentian family). It is a perennial herb that is found on the Pacific side of North America, from British Columbia, Canada to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. It grows in mountain meadows and along mountain streams, and is 5 to 30 cm tall. It produces blue to yellow-green bell-shaped flowers at the tips of its stems from July to October. The corolla has five lobes at the tip, which rarely open. |
