The snow gentian (Gentiana nivalis) belongs to Gentianaceae (the Gentian family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb grows in meadows, marshes, heaths and stony places, 1600-3100 m elevation, and can reach 5-15 cm in height. The stems are erect and branched. The leaves are oval or elliptical and arranged in opposite. The flowers are bright, deep blue, about 8 mm across, and bloom from June to August.
