母種の「コロラドとうひ」はアメリカ北部のコロラド州に分布し、高さは３０〜５０メートルにもなります。樹冠は円錐形で、枝はほとんど水平またはやや斜上します。この品種は、針形の葉が青みがかった銀白色になります。写真は園芸品種の「グロボーサ（cv. Globosa）」で、矮性で成長が遅く、庭や公園の植栽に利用されます。 |

The blue spruce (Picea pungens f. glauca) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine tree). It is a form of "Colorado blue spruce" (Picea pungens). The host species is native to Colorado in the northern United States, and it can reach 30-50 m in height. The crown is cornical and the branches spread out almost on the level or ascending. This species has needle-like, bluish silver-white leaves. The photos are a cultivar 'Globosa' that is dwarf, slow-growing, and used as a garden or park tree. |
