中国原産の「ほていちく（布袋竹）」の一品種です。桿の直径は３センチ、高さは１０メートルほどになります。地面の近くの節が膨れ、桿に淡黄色の縦縞がはいるのが特徴です。別名で「ぎんめいはちく（銀明淡竹）」とも呼ばれます。

イネ科マダケ属のタケ類で、学名は Phyllostachys aurea f. flavescens-inversa。英名はありません。

"Ginmei-hotei-chiku" (Phyllostachys aurea f. flavescens-inversa) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a form of "Fish pole bamboo" (Phyllostachys aurea) which is native to China. The culms can reach about 10 m in height and about 3 cm in diameter. The nodes are swollen at just above the soil level, and the culms have pale yellow vertical stripes.
