The White poplar (Populus alba) belongs to Salicaceae (the Willow family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to central and western Asia, central and southern Europe, and northern Africa. This tree grows in woods and it can reach about 30 m in height. The bark is gray and deep furrowed. The leaves of seedlings are devided into 3-5 lobes palmately, but the leaves are ovate-round with slightly, indented toothed edges when mature. The dense white hairs are covered on abaxial side. The catkins flower in early spring. The fruits are capsules and release many tiny seeds tipped with soft, white hairs in early summer.
