中国原産の「まだけ（真竹）」の園芸品種です。桿の直径は３〜８センチ、高さは１０〜２０メートルになります。「きんめいちく（金明竹）」とは逆に桿が緑色で、芽溝部に淡黄色の縦縞があるのが特徴です。

イネ科マダケ属の常緑タケ類で、学名は Phyllostachys bambusoides cv. Castilloni-inversa。英名はありません。

The "Ginmei-chiku" (Phyllostachys bambusoides cv. Castilloni-inversa) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a cultivar of "Giant timber bamboo" (Phyllostachys bambusoides) which is native to China. The culms can reach 10-20 m in height and 3-8 cm in diameter. The culms are green on the ground and they have pale yellow vertical stripes at the bud grooves.
