The Fragrant tea olive (Osmanthus fragrans var. fragrans) belongs to Oleaceae (the Olive family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is native to China. This tree can reach 3-6 m in height and the bark is light grayish brown. The leaves are ovate, leathery and opposite. It is dioecious, and small, fragrant white flowers bloom in bundles on the axils of the branches from September to October. In Chinese, it is called "銀桂" (yin gui). The photos show a dwarf cultivar that blooms in four seasons, and is called "Perpetual osmanthus".
