南アメリカのチリ北部、第４州にあるチョアパ川（Rio Choapa）流域に分布しています。球形から短い円筒形で、直径８センチ、高さは１８センチほどになります。１３〜２１個の稜があり、金色から白色の棘が生えています。春に直径１〜３センチの鮮やかな赤色の花を咲かせます。

サボテン科ネオポルテリア属の球形サボテンで、学名は Neoporteria nidus（syn. Eriosyce senilis）。英名はありません。

The Neoporteria nidus belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a ball cuctus that is found in the Choapa River (Rio Choapa) basin in the fourth region of northern Chile, South America. It is spherical to short cylindrical, 8 cm in diameter and up to 18 cm tall, with 13 to 21 ribs and golden to white spines. It produces bright red flowers 1-3 cm in diameter in spring.
