The "Ginryo-so" (Monotropastrum humile) belongs to the family Monotropaceae. It is an annual herb that is native all over Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China and the Indo-china Peninsula and Sakhalin. This herb grows in mountain dim forests. It is a saprobic plant and can reach 7-15 cm in height. It is achlorophyllous and translucent white. The leaves are degenerate and scalelike. The white flowers bloom from May to August. It is called "球果假沙晶蘭" (qiu guo jia sha jing lan) in Chinese.
