グロッバ属はインドから東南アジアに７５種ほどが分布しています。ウィニティ種はタイが原産です。「しょうが」に似ていて根茎があり、高さは４５〜６０センチほどになります。葉は広披針形または長楕円形です。７月から１０月ごろ、下垂する穂状花序に、赤紫色の苞と黄色い花弁の花を咲かせます。別名で「シャムの舞姫」とも呼ばれます。

ショウガ科グロッパ属の多年草で、学名は Globba winitii。英名は Mauve dancing ladies、Dancing ladies ginger。

The mauve dancing ladies (Globba winitii) belongs to Zingerberaceae (the Ginger family). About 75 species of Globba genus are distributed from India to Southeast Asia. Globba winitii is native to Thailand. It looks like "ginger" and has rhizome, its height is about 45-60 cm. The leaves are broad lanceolate or oblong. Reddish-purple bracts and yellow petaled flowers bloom in the descending spike-shaped inflorescence from July to October.
