アメリカのカリフォルニア州からオレゴン州それにメキシコのバハカリフォルニアに分布しています。乾燥した丘陵に生え、高さは２０〜８５センチになります。茎は上部で分枝して、葉は線形から披針形で葉柄はありません。全体に白い綿毛に被われています。１月から７月ごろまで、枝先に扁平な花序をつけ、白い総苞片に包まれた頭花を咲かせます。

キク科ハハコグサ属の一年草または二年草で、学名は Gnaphalium californicum。英名は California cudweed、California everlasting。

The California cudweed (Gnaphalium californicum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an annual or a biennial herb that is distributed from California to Oregon in the United States and Baja California in Mexico. It grows on dry hillsides and is 20-85 cm tall. The stem is branched at the top and the leaves are linear to lanceolate without petioles. The entire plant is covered with white downy hairs, and from January to July it produces flattened inflorescences at the ends of the branches, with flower-heads surrounded by white bracts.
